Guy Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 25, 2026.
Guy Mckenzie Davis, a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, decorated military veteran, passed away on February 17, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of service, laughter, and love for his family. Born on September 9, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Mary Maril Young Davis, Guy grew up in the neighborhood he loved most - Squirrel Hill. The city shaped his grit, humor, and his lifelong loyalty to family and friends. At just 17 years old, Guy joined the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS F.D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) during the Vietnam War from 1966-1967. After his Navy service, he continued his commitment to his country by joining the Pennsylvania Air National Guard 112th TFG Security Police and became part of the 171st ARW Security Forces, later working in Air Refueling Wing operations. He proudly served during Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the First Gulf War, retiring from the United States Air Force in 1998. A proud Vietnam Veteran and lifelong patriot, Guy answered the call every time his country needed him.

After his military career, Guy continued protecting and serving his community as a leader and problem solver. He worked with the Pittsburgh Police, Sheriff's Office, and as an Enforcement Officer and Supervisor for the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement. He later served as a Special Investigator before retiring in 2002. Never one to sit still, Guy later worked with the Louis Caputo Law Firm and Caputo and Caputo, PC. He served as President of the Fraternal Order of Police in West Penn 59, President of Allegheny North Swim Club, and held positions with HOAs and Water Boards in Richmond, Texas.

Family was Guy's greatest pride, and role of "Grandpa Hat" was his greatest joy. He is survived by his wife Susan Galati Davis of Houston; children Marlo Davis Svidron and husband Kevin, and Tracy Rose Davis, of Pittsburgh; grandchildren Caitlin, Carson, Caden, Camdyn, JC, Hudson, and "Little" Guy Davis; half-brother Mckenzie Davis and half-sister Beth Davis. Guy was preceded in death by his brothers, Tim and Tommy Davis. He carried their memory with him always and will be laid to rest near his brother Tommy at Arlington National Cemetery.

On April 23, 1980, Guy married the love of his life, Susan Galati Davis. They were inseparable in life and work and often partnered in undercover PLCB raids in Pittsburgh. Their love story carried them around the world through military travels and later adventures abroad. Guy coached both of his daughters in soccer and softball and was their loudest supporter. He loved baseball and basketball and joked that while he never quite reached the level in baseball that his two grandsons did, he was more than happy to cheer from the sidelines. Guy was a family friend to many in his neighborhood, always ready with a story, a joke, or a helping hand. He never met a stranger - only future friends. His quick wit and big personality could fill any room.

Guy faithfully walked his beloved rescue dogs, Jake and Dottie, several times daily. He and Susan spent cherished time at Happy Faces Pet Ranch in Richmond, Texas, walking and playing with shelter dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to this wonderful organization in his honor. Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Guy lived boldly, loved fiercely, served proudly, and laughed often. His legacy of strength, humor, loyalty, and devotion will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Guy was such a giving soul. He always helped the people and pets he befriended. He loved his wife and family dearly. He was devoted to his friends. He never met a stranger. It is hard to believe he is gone because he was so full of life. I will miss him.

Susan and family: Our hearts are so heavy with yours right now. Guy was one of a kind, and Meredith and I feel so fortunate to have had both of you as our neighbor and friend. From the very first day we moved in, Guy and Susan were at our door, welcoming us with open arms and making us feel like we'd lived here our whole lives. That's just who he was, he truly never met a stranger.

Guy's laugh, his stories, and that big personality made every conversation feel like the best part of the day. We'll miss seeing him out with Jake and Dottie, always ready with a story or a wave. He was the kind of man who made an entire neighborhood feel like family, and we are so grateful to be part of that family because of him.

We are thinking of you all and holding you close. Guy lived an extraordinary life, full of service, love, and laughter. His memory will stay with us always. With all our love.
