Guy Shelby Demarest passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 23, 2023 at the age of 68. He was born in Paterson, NJ, to the late Leroy Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Demarest.
Guy received his education from the Paterson Public School system, going on to later graduate from Eastside High School. Afterwards, he went on to start his working career as a short order cook at Alexanders and Macys, where he developed a lifelong passion for cooking. Later in his life he went on to have a long and successful career as a postal worker for the United States Postal Service.
Guy considered his greatest achievement in life as being a faithful and long-time dedicated servant of Jehovah, he served Jehovah for 35 years. During his faithful service to Jehovah, he was happily joined in marriage to his best friend Evelyn and to this union was born a son Micah. Guy and Evelyn were married for 21 years and had established fun-loving friendship for many years. Throughout their marriage Guy and Evelyn enjoyed worshiping Jehovah together, especially spending time in the ministry and speaking about Jehovah with others.
Guy was known for his gentle nature and for his giving of good advice. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Guy. He loved a quiet evening with his friends and family surrounded by good food and laughter. He had an uncanny ability to turn special moments into musicals with a spontaneous voice to sing. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met.
Guy leaves to cherish his memories, the love of his life and best friend Evelyn Demarest; his sons Micah Demarest, Leroy Demarest, his daughters Jamie Jacobs, Stella (Buster) Tripp, his brothers Harry Demarest (California), Arlene Demarest (Paterson), Charlie Demarest (Paterson); his grandchildren Jatayasia, Jahmir, Bah'sheen, Shakim, Yo'rel, Tajimier, Xander, and Dorian. His sole great-grandchild: Ja'leia. His brother-in-law: Larry (Jeanette) Drakeford along with a host of many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his Jehovah Witnesses family.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents Leroy Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Demarest, his brothers Leroy M. Demarest and Philip Demarest, his Sister Sheryl (Demarest) Haywood, his son Shondell Jacobs.
Guy was a spiritual man, he was dedicated to pleasing his heavenly father Jehovah. His favorite scripture he often quoted was Romans 14:8 -For if we live, we live to Jehovah, and if we die, we die to Jehovah. So both if we live and if we die, we belong to Jehovah.

Guy was genuinely a loving person. One of his strongest points was the ability to listen. Sometimes we can solve our problems with our own voice and Guy skillfully used that voice to help us through difficult times. His love of Jehovah and his knowledge of people stemmed from the same place; His love of the Bible. Along with his many duties in the Christen Congregation his Public Talks and his counseling, consoling, and comforting will be missed, I do not say these things with sadness but with joy, knowing that just as He believed, I too believe that we will meet again in Paradise.
