Guy Swinyer Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Guy A. Swinyer Sr., 60, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 8, 2025.

Born in Potsdam, NY, he was the son of the late Joe and Phyllis Swinyer.

Guy spent most of his life on the road as a proud CDL truck driver, most recently driving for B&W Paving & Landscaping. He loved the open roads and took great pride in his work, making friends wherever he went. His dedication and strong work ethic were admired by all who knew him.

When he wasn't behind the wheel, Guy loved the freedom of riding his Harley Davidson, taking in the fresh air and wide-open roads. He also found peace in the outdoors, where he could often be found near a quiet lake or river, rod in hand, enjoying nature's calm with his best friends and brother, John.

One of his greatest joys was traveling with his beloved wife, Dorothy. Together, they shared a passion for chasing waterfalls and escaping to the woods, where they made cherished memories exploring the beauty of nature side by side.

Guy will be remembered for his kind heart, his adventurous spirit, infectious humor, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His presence will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dorothy Swinyer, sister Sue and brother-in-law Brian, and brother John. He was the proud father and stepfather to Guy Swinyer Jr., Casey Osorio, Patrick Swinyer, Amanda O'Rourke, Ashley Cahn, Alexis Cahn, Alexandra Morse, Michael Cahn, Jesse Cahn, Carl Cahn Jr., and Caleb Armstrong. He was also the proud grandfather of Dakota Bourbeau, Wilson Osorio, and Juana Osorio. Guy was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Phyllis, and his siblings Frank Jr., Phillip Sr., and Cynthia.

In addition to his wife, siblings, children, and grandchildren, Guy will be deeply missed by his four-legged children and the many, many friends he's made over the years.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 15th from 2PM to 7PM at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Services, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville CT. Visitation will also take place on Tuesday, September 16, from 9AM to 10:30AM at the funeral home before the Graveside Funeral Service at 11am at Maplewood Cemetery, 184 Salem Tpke, Norwich, CT. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to ease some of the medical expenses incurred during this difficult time, as well as support his best friend, who remains in critical condition. Please take a quiet moment in nature to honor his memory-cast a line, go for a ride, or simply listen to a waterfall.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
