Isabella Rose Butzgy, 22, a radiant soul whose laughter and light touched everyone she met, passed away on September 5, 2025.

A proud graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, Isabella earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Horticulture. During her time there, she poured her heart into maintaining the Roger Clapp Greenhouse and the Little Field Garden. Most recently, she was advancing her professional journey through the Connecticut Nursery and Landscape Association, furthering her lifelong dedication to plants, the planet, and the beauty of nature. Her dream was to one day continue her education and earn her PhD in horticulture.

Isabella lived with a passion that inspired everyone around her. She was an advocate for safe access to medical marijuana, human rights, and social justice, never afraid to speak up for what she believed in. She maintained friendships with people from all walks of life and cared deeply for every connection she made from Montville High School to Three Rivers, to Southern, and to UMaine. Her empathy, humor, and charisma made her unforgettable. Many described her energy as a bright light.

Her interests were as vast and vibrant as her personality. Isabella loved snowboarding at Sugarloaf, playing volleyball, cooking and baking with her beloved Wüsthof knife and cast iron pans, and tending to her pets, her fish tank, and every plant she touched. She found joy in traveling with Lily, exploring both new and familiar places, and together they dreamed of marrying beneath the redwoods, with Bella proudly assuming Lily's last name, Cummings, and building a cabin in Maine. She loved the cold, the winter, and the magic of snowfall.

Isabella leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and courage. She was extremely vibrant, empathetic, funny, and beautiful. Someone whose love for the earth and all living things will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched.

Isabella is survived by her loving parents, Karl and Danielle Butzgy; her big sister, Jocelyn Kelley; her little brother, Nick Butzgy; and her devoted fiancé, Lily Cummings. She was the cherished granddaughter of Sandi Scavetta, Claudio Miceli, Arthur Butzgy, and Diana Butzgy, and the beloved mother to her two adored sons, Goose and Bob. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville, CT 06382. In honor of Bella's spirit, guests are encouraged to wear bright and beautiful colors and prints rather than black.

A celebration of Isabella's life will be on Sunday, September 14th at 1:00 PM at Salem Community Park, 89 Norwich Rd. Salem, CT.

Danielle and Karl and family, my heart is shattered! Bella was a bright light, a kind and dedicated friend and one of those students that stay forever in a teacher's soul. I'm so sorry for your loss.
