Gwendoline "Gwen" C. Cawthon passed away on May 2, 2025 at age 96. Gwen was born in England and spent her childhood in London during the Blitz of World War II.
In 1945, she married U.S. soldier James V. Cawthon Jr. and moved to Virginia. She became a proud American citizen and lived out her life in Newport News, VA where she worked at the Marine Resources Commission and raised a large, beautiful family.
Gwen will be remembered for her lively energy, generosity of spirit, and never knowing a stranger.
Gwen was preceded in passing by her husband, James V Cawthon Jr.; son, Roger E. Cawthon and daughter, Mary C. Priddy. She is survived by sons, John D. Cawthon (Jennie) and J. Richard "Rick" Cawthon (Martha); son-in-law, Bobby E. Priddy Jr.; daughter-in-law, Kathy L. Cawthon; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be privately held by family.
