H. Michael Daniel, loving husband, father, grandfather and pillar of the Galveston community, transitioned peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025, in
Galveston, Texas. He was born February 7, 1932, in
Washington, Louisiana, the fifth of twelve children of Marshall and Octavia Daniel, and grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Michael touched many lives through his gentle life's journey and unwavering spirit of service.
Michael graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana and was captain of the basketball team. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. Thereafter, he became a student at McNeese State College in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Michael met the love of his life, Joyce Ann, and moved to
Galveston, Texas where they later married. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Monique Anita.
Michael began his professional career at Pearl Beer and then was hired by Marathon Oil Company where he retired as a Utility Supervisor after a 35-year career. He was then later employed for a decade as a Bailiff for the Galveston County Courthouse.
Michael relished times spent with his grandchildren and worldwide travels with wife Joyce that included Rome, France, Venice, the Holy Land, Scotland, Portugal, Hawaii, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands.
Michael faithfully served his Catholic Church as an usher, lector, Eucharistic minister, and home bound minister. He was Past President of the Holy Name Society, Galveston's Serra Club, and the Father & Son Breakfast, a board member of the Sunshine Center, Vice President of Guadalupe Catholic Charities, and also the Grand Knight of the Knights of Peter Claver and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus at the same time. Michael served as President, Marathon Oil Company Credit Union, President, Adelphi Debutante Club, President of the Galveston Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, and President, Galveston County Council of Greeks.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Daniel, mother, Octavia Thierry Daniel, brothers, Sylvester, Marshall Jr., Anthony, Julian, Jerome, and Lionel Daniel, and sisters, Georgia Thomas and Mary England.
Michael is survived by his wife Joyce Ann Daniel, daughter Monique Daniel Pressley, grandchildren Carlton Jr., Grace and Daniel, their father Carlton Pressley Sr., three brothers, Philip Daniel (RoseAnn), Patrick Daniel (Betty) and Harold Daniel (who received his reward of Heaven on December 15, 2025, 10 days after his brother), brother-in-law William C. "Bo" Hunter Jr., aunts, Marceline "Penny" Thierry Lewis, Shirley Ann Thierry Guillory and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and friends.
