Beloved Aunt, Grand Aunt and Friend;

Ursula Shanahan, 99, a lifelong resident of the Acre section of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Monday June 16, 2025, at Sunny Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chelmsford, MA.

She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, May 11, 1926, the daughter of the late Edward F. and the late Mary F. (Fitzgerald) Shanahan.

Ursula attended St. Patrick Grammar school and was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School Class of 1943.

Prior to her retirement, Ursula was a Supervisor of the Data Entry Office of the Boston and Main Railroad for over 40 years in the Boston and Billerica Offices. She was also a member of the Transportation Communication International Union.

A lifelong and active communicant of St. Patrick's Church she was honored by the Church and the Bishop in 2021 as the oldest member of the parish still attending Mass weekly.

In addition, Ursula was a member of St. Patrick Blessed Virgin Sodality and the League of Catholic Women.

She was also an avid Boston sports fan, especially the Red Sox and Patriots and followed them on television every chance she could.

Ursula is survived by two nieces, Mary Jo Sudol and her husband Stephen of Dracut and Susan F. Jones and her husband John of East Aurora, NY; a beloved grandniece Molly B. Jones; and many close family and friends.

She was the sister of the late Alice Shanahan, Edward F. Shanahan, Muriel F. Haggerty and Muriel's late husband Philip.

The family would like to express their gratitude to High Pointe Hospice in Haverhill, Sunny Acres and Tufts Medicine Care Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Ursula.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Friday, July 18, 2025, at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in LOWELL at 10:00 AM. Her burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com. Those wishing may make contributions in her memory to St. Patrick Church, 282 Suffolk St., Lowell, MA 01854.
