Halbert Anthony “Burger” Martinez, age 33, passed away on February 24, 2025. Born on December 6, 1991, in Espanola NM,
Halbert spent his life rooted in the community that shaped him and that he loved deeply. Halbert was a man of faith and compassion. He found joy and purpose in reading the Bible and preaching the word, often sharing messages of hope and love with those around him. His kind heart and generous spirit were known to all who crossed his path—he would give the shirt off his back without hesitation. Whether spending time outdoors camping or fishing, or simply enjoying the company of family and friends.
Halbert embraced life with warmth and enthusiasm. He was a social butterfly whose presence brought light to every gathering.
He is survived by the love of his life Tiffany Martinez, who was his strength and constant support. Halbert cherished their bond deeply. He also leaves behind his sisters Audrianna "Nana", Frances (Norman), Evangeline and Regina Sanchez; mother-in-law Louise (Charles) Marrufo; sisters-in-law Daisy Vigil (Michael) and Desiray Rojas (Isaiah); goddaughter Tatyana Vigil; nieces Amelia and Memari; nephews Jasiah, Marcos, Mateo, Michael Jr., Hezekiah, and Santos. Halbert’s extended family includes aunts and uncles Earl, Dora, and Rhonda Martinez; cousins Lucas, Toribio, Earl Jr. “Gordo,” Monique, Julie, Karen, Jessica, and Carlene Martinez; paternal relatives Carla Martinez; Doris Pacheco (Danny); Andres Madrid; cousins Erica (Kevin) Martinez; Andrea Madrid; Dwight; Freida; and Johnathan Martinez; Dora Pacheco; as well as Daniel Roybal—a close cousin who was like a brother to him. He is also remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins from Chimayo and members of the Padilla family from Hernandez.
Halbert was preceded in death by his grandparents Lorenzo and Tessie Martinez who raised him with love and guidance; his mother Bertha Martinez; father Halbert Martinez; father-in-law Rudy Sandoval; cousins Mario Martinez and Santiago Trujillo and Isaac and Angel Morfin; uncles Tommy, Andrew, Carlos, and Raymond Martinez; maternal great-grandparents Ramon and Frances Padilla; paternal grandparents Dora Martinez (Gilberto Barela) and Horacio Martinez; paternal great-grandparents Fernando and Rebecca Martinez; paternal uncles Harold and Harry Martinez; aunt Evangeline Madrid. Lucille Martinez; cousins Leon Martinez, Danny Pacheco, and Simon Jaramillo.
Halbert’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for those close to him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. Pallbearer’s, Earl jr “gordo” and Toribio Martinez, Jesse Moya, Marty Sherwood, Chris Archuleta, Proxcedes “proxi” Martinez, Lucas Trujillo, Dennis Barela, Honorary Pallbearers Tatyana "Taty" Vigil, Jasiah Sanchez, Daniel Roybal, Marco and Mateo Martinez.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10:00 am at Victory Faith Church (Angel Duran Street) in Espanola, NM. Burial to follow at El Potrero Cemetery in Chimayo, NM.
