Obituary of Hallie McCartt
Hallie E. (Lunsford) McCartt passed away on Tuesday morning, December 6, 2022, in Crossville, Tennessee, surrounded by her three children and loved ones.
She was born on January 19, 1930, to Ernest and Anna Lunsford in Knoxville, where she grew up. There she met her one true love, Herbert McCartt, and married him on Christmas Eve, 1949. After Herb graduated from the University of Tennessee, they moved to Ohio. They lived in Indiana and Illinois for many years, where they raised and educated their three children: Robin, Darryl, and Tracy.
She and Herbert retired in 1982 and soon returned to their beloved Tennessee, settling in Crossville to be close to their families and friends for the remainder of their lives. She selflessly cared for Herbert until he passed away in 1993, and she mourned his death for the rest of her years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and F. “Anna” Lee (Ward) Lunsford, by her brothers Elmes “Tony”, Ernest “Ernie,” Lloyd, and Clarence “Tommy” Lunsford; and by sisters Imogene "Jean" Hodge, Wilma Hogan, and Carrie Vickers, all of whom she loved with all her heart.
Hallie’s life is celebrated, and her death is mourned. She was loved by so many. She loved her friends and family fiercely, trusted God and Jesus, was quietly generous, remembered every loved one’s birthday, and was thrifty and independent. Hallie loved songbirds and hummingbirds, butterflies, dogwood blossoms, and spring flowers. Her favorite activity was spending time with family. Her family is deeply grateful for her many years of love, support, health, and independence.
Survivors include her three children: Robin McCartt Morris (husband Alonzo “Lonnie”) of New Orleans, Louisiana; Darryl McCartt (wife Pamela) of Richmond, Virginia; and Tracy Gruny (husband Robert “Rob”) of Carbondale, Illinois. She leaves behind eleven beloved grandchildren (and their spouses): Kyle McCartt (Emily), Tyler McCartt (Chelsea), Shea Harsh (Donald), Elizabeth “Beth” Staszak (Paul), Devynn Woolley (Taylor), Shelby Olsen (Daniel), Sean McCartt, Jared McCartt, Ethan McCartt, Samantha Morris, and Cole McCartt, and nine great-grandchildren.
Her family conducted a private funeral on December 10, 2022, at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Lancing, Tennessee, where she was laid to rest beside Herbert McCartt, her beloved husband.
