Fred L Jenkins Funeral & Cremation ServicesIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hameed Thomas, a beloved father, brother, and friend, who unexpectedly left us while visiting his sister in Morgantown, West Virginia. Hameed was born on March 2, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and he embraced life with an unwavering spirit and a generous heart.
Hameed was adopted by loving parents, Zenobia and Herbert Thomas, as a baby. He spent his early years in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He later moved to Homestead to attend high school and loved living in the Thomas household with his Aunt Marion, Uncle Walter, and cousins/siblings, Carol, Bruce, Steve, Gail, Valerie, Brenda, and Terri. Having been raised as an only child, Hameed always cherished being a part of a large family.
Hameed graduated from Schwab Vocational School, where he majored in electrical wiring. Throughout high school, he worked for WAM TV, assisting his Uncle Walter with TV sales, service, and appliance sales. After graduation, he worked at Mesta Machine Company and later at Kaufman's Department Store as a chef. He was a "jack of all trades" and was always on his customers' speed dial throughout his adult life to make plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other much-needed repairs.
Hameed is survived by his children: sons Hameed Hughes and Rahmeed Hughes, and daughter B'Nai Thomas; and sisters Gwendolyn McKinley, Carol Hickman, Gail Thomas, Valerie Njie, Brenda Thomas, and Terri Thomas. Hameed leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and other family and friends who will dearly miss him.
He is preceded in death by his birth parents, Leon Rudolph Sr. and Francis Lenola West McKinley, adoptive parents, Zenobia and Herbert Thomas, brothers, Rudolph McKinley Jr., Leonard McKinley, Bruce Thomas, and Steve Thomas, and sister, Georgetta M. McKinley.
A memorial service celebrating Hameed's life will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 10 AM at the Jesus Mission Church in Osage, West Virginia. His sister, Pastor Gwendolyn McKinley, will preside over his memorial service.
Family and friends are invited to join together to honor his memory and reflect on the impact he had on all who knew him.
A memorial service will also be held in Pittsburgh for family and friends. Details will be announced by the family soon.
Following the memorials, Hameed's ashes will be placed at a location meaningful to his family. As we remember Hameed Thomas, let us celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and the warmth of his vibrant spirit. May he rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
