Harlow Jefferson McDaniel, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born on August 3, 1939, in Eastman, Georgia, Harlow was the son of the late Earnest Washington McDaniel and Odessa Lillian Millikin. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Harlow was known for his tireless work ethic, generous heart, and deep love for the outdoors.
Harlow dedicated much of his life to his work as a skilled pipe fitter with Consolidated Fire Protection, a job that took him up and down the East Coast—from Maine to Florida and across to Mississippi—always in pursuit of providing for his family. Despite the miles he traveled, his heart was firmly rooted in home and family.
He was a longtime member of Bonaire First Baptist Church. He was a man who found joy in the simple things: casting a line in at Aunt Myrtle’s house, sitting in a deer stand, tending to his garden, and cooking meals for those he loved. He took special pride in his tomatoes, onions, and blueberries. In honor of Harlow’s memory and his love for the land, his family requests that those wishing to pay tribute plant; some tomatoes or onions — so that his spirit may continue to grow and bloom in the lives of others.
In addition to his parents, Harlow was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sylvia “Helen” Maine McDaniel; son-in-law, Johnny Ray Palmer; and granddaughter, Florence Palmer.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Lisa M. Melvin, Tracy Lynne Palmer, Harlow “Jeff” Jefferson McDaniel, Jr. (Melissa J.); grandchildren, Thaddeus L. Melvin, Victoria I. Dykes (Kelby), Christina A. Pickle (Michael), Shawn Michael McDaniel, Mystie M. Mingledorff (Bryce); great-grandchildren, Colter Chase Mingledorff, Olivia Ray Pickle, and one on the way, Baby Dykes; as well as several other beloved extended family members and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Harlow Jefferson McDaniel, Sr. will be laid to rest in Bonaire Cemetery at a later date.
