Harmon Glymph, Jr. Obituary Master Sergeant (U.S. Air Force Retired) Harmon Richard Glymph, Jr. better known as 'Hock' to his hometown family died November 20, 2024. He was a resident of Bronx, New York. Harmon was born January 25, 1945 to the late Beaute L. Sanders Glymph and the late Harmon Glymph, Sr.
He was a 1963 graduate of Gallman High School Newberry, S. C. As a high school student, Harmon drove the daily school bus from Whitmire, S.C. to Newberry, S. C. during the height of segregation. Harmon enlisted in the United States Air Force upon graduation. He served a tour in Vietnam and was granted God's favor to return home to his beloved family. Harmon loved the military and rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. He moved to New York and met the love of his life Margaret Gresham. The two were wed in 1978. After retirement, Harmon continued to serve in the Air National Guard and also worked as an Electrician at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York.
Harmon was a great dancer and his humor and charisma was infectious. The willingness to always assist and his passionate support for our country's military were greatly appreciated and he will be missed by those who knew him as 'Hock', Jr., Harmon, Richard, Glymph, Uncle and 'Sarge'.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret; sister, Amye Harney, Cleveland OH; brothers, James Young of Cleveland, OH and John Johnson, Sr. of Columbia, S. C.
Harmon is survived by his sister, Beverly Glymph Miller (Michael) Charlotte, N. C.; special nephew, John 'Speedy' Johnson, Jr,; special cousins, Willie Margaret and Margaret Lynn Chaplin, Newberry, S. C.; sister-in-law, Mary Johnson, Columbia, S. C. Harmon also cherished his numerous nieces and nephews as well as his many cousins and friends.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.
