Harold L Black, 90, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 23rd surrounded by his 3 children.
Harold was born in Conemaugh Township, Pennsylvania, on March 29th, 1935. He was the 2nd oldest of 13 children born to Rosella and Ellsworth Black. While growing up with his 12 siblings, he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. He enlisted in the army upon graduating from high school with honors and spent time in Korea and Japan shortly after the Korean War.
After leaving the army, he joined the Central Intelligence Agency. His early career took him to California, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn. They married a short time later and traveled the world together living in Ethiopia, England, Greece, and Northern Virginia with their three children. He stayed active in his children's lives, camping, exploring new places, and coaching Little League baseball and soccer. Harold retired from a decorated career with the
Agency and moved to Big Pine Key, Florida. Harold was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many years pursuing his passion. When not on the water, Harold and Carolyn enjoyed volunteering with the Marathon community theater.
Harold and Carolyn later moved to Lawrenceville, GA to be closer to their son and his family. Harold spent many days on the water fishing with his son and enjoying a quiet life. One of the highlights of his time in GA was taking annual beach trips to the Outer Banks with his wife and daughters. After Carolyn's passing in 2021, he was fortunate to live with his eldest daughter, Linda.
Harold is survived by his three children Linda Black, Jim (Melinda) Black, and Laura (David McCue) Black; grandchildren Jessica Black and Rachel Black; and siblings Ellsworth"Sonny"; Black, Robert (Rosalie) Black, Kenneth (Rosa) Black, Dixie Jezeskie, Larry (Nila) Black, Karen Beard, Cheryl Black, Shirley (John) Kozar, Phyllis Cocco, and Gary (Karen) Black. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Black, sister Sheila Byer, and brother Milton
Black.
Harold will be remembered for his dedication to his family and country, his kind, friendly personality, his great sense of humor, his love of the outdoors, and his appreciation of the simple things in life.
Honoring his wishes, the family held a private remembrance at his home. His remains will be interred next to those of his wife Carolyn in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville, Georgia.
