In Loving Memory of Donald Lamar Byrom Sr.
October 8, 1944 – October 11, 2025
Donald Lamar Byrom Sr. was born on October 8, 1944, at Crawford Long Hospital in DeKalb County, Georgia, to John Perry Byrom of Senoia and Ruby Mae Allen Byrom of Roanoke, Alabama.
Lamar spent much of his early life as a true country boy, exploring the family land on West Fayetteville Road, just north of Bethsaida Road. He grew up hunting, fishing, and playing sports-activities that shaped his adventurous spirit and deep appreciation for the outdoors. He graduated from North Clayton High School in 1962, where he proudly lettered in both football and basketball.
On September 26, 1964, Lamar married the love of his life, Carolyn Rogers Byrom. Their 61-year marriage was a testament to unwavering love, devotion, and partnership.
A proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 613, Lamar received his post-secondary education through the union and built a fulfilling career as an electrician. In 1968, with the help of his father, he built the family home on Norden Road, where he and Carolyn raised their son and daughter and made a lifetime of memories.
Lamar had many passions. He loved coaching youth sports, spending countless hours mentoring young athletes in baseball and football through the North Clayton Athletic Association. He was also an avid bass fisherman, often found on West Point Lake on his Skeeter boat, and enjoyed collecting guns and knives. Above all, Lamar loved his home, where he found peace and joy surrounded by family and his beloved pets. He is survived by two cherished companions, Budman and Ladybug.
On October 11, 2025, Lamar passed peacefully in his sleep after a courageous year-long battle with melanoma. At 81 years old, he departed this world with grace and entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ-free from pain and fear.
Lamar is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Rogers Byrom; his son, Donald Lamar Byrom Jr., and wife Joanna Franzen Byrom; and his daughter, Kellie Byrom Adams, and husband Joel Michael Adams. He was a proud grandfather to Kayla Brooke Byrom, Kirsten Ariel Brantley and her husband Landon Hayes Brantley, Hannah Gabrielle Byrom and her fiancé Jack Doran, Salem Tate Adams, and Maysa Ann Adams.
He is also survived by his brothers John Perry Byrom, Ray Joel Byrom Sr., and James Keith Byrom, and was preceded in death by his brother Frank Dennis Byrom and his parents, John Perry Byrom and Ruby Mae Allen Byrom.
His legacy of strength will live on through those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
