Harold Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home on Dec. 22, 2025.
Harold E. "Gene" Brown, a cherished patriarch and distinguished veteran, passed away peacefully at his home in Milton on December 19, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on April 8, 1930, in Vevay, Indiana, Harold's life was marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and engagement with his community.

Harold was the son of the late Harold Andrew Brown and Etta Lena {Lothridge} Brown-Webster. He grew up in Switzerland County, Indiana, where he attended local schools and graduated from high school. His strong sense of duty led him to enlist in the United States Navy shortly after graduation, embarking on what would become a storied 30-year career. He served with honor and distinction during both the Korean War and the Vietnam era, rising to the rank of Commander and earning the respect and admiration of his peers.

Upon retiring from the Navy, Harold transitioned to a civilian career that reflected his passion for his country's defense. He worked diligently for Bethlehem Steel in Boston, contributing to the repair of naval ships, and later worked on radar system programs at Raytheon. His expertise and work ethic were highly valued, and he retired with a legacy of achievements in his field.

Harold's devotion to his family was the cornerstone of his life. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna M. "Nancy" Brown, and together they built a life filled with love and shared experiences. He was a guiding force and source of wisdom for his children, Cheryl Patstone and her husband Walter of Quincy, Pamela Donovan and her husband John of Milton, and Douglas Brown of Quincy. His grandchildren, Michael and Katherine Murray, will forever cherish the memories of their grandfather's kindness and the life lessons he imparted.

Harold's siblings, Phyllis Stafford of Ohio, Lawrence "Doc" Brown of Vevay, IN, and Linda Pettit, also of Indiana, along with his late siblings Lloyd "Bud" Brown, Carroll Douglas Brown, and Lelia Mae Bladen, held a special place in his heart. The bonds of family were a theme that ran deeply through Harold's life, and his absence will be felt profoundly by those who knew and loved him.

Beyond his family and military service, Harold was an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution. His involvement with this organization was a testament to his love for history and his pride in America's heritage.

Harold E. Brown leaves behind a legacy of honor, commitment, and love that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit will live on through the lives he touched and the memories that will be treasured by all.

A private service for his family will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home and burial with Military Honors will follow at Milton Cemetery.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Friends of the Milton Council on Aging.
