Harold "Hal" Feiveson, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Princeton, NJ on July 10, 2025. He was born May 20, 1935 and grew up in Chicago, graduating from John Marshall High School in 1953 before attending the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he was a standout shortstop on the baseball team. Hal received a Master's degree from the University of California in Los Angeles in theoretical physics before joining the Science Bureau of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. He came to Princeton University in 1967 and received his Ph.D. in 1972 after completing a thesis on the danger of weapons programs emerging from civilian nuclear energy technologies. Combating the threat of nuclear war and weapons proliferation became the focus of Hal's career thereafter. In 1974 he married Carol Dreby, with whom he spent the rest of his life. They made their home in Princeton and raised three children together. Hal remained at the University for the entirety of his career, where he taught and mentored countless students. He was a beloved teacher and research scientist, academic advisor to the Princeton University men's basketball team and collaborated on numerous books and publications. He was also a lifelong Cubs fan and, above all else, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Carol, children Dan, Peter and Laura, daughter-in-law Stephanie, son-in-law Nupur, grandchildren Julian, Levi, Jaya and Ceci and brother Arthur.

Donations may be made in Hal's memory at 350.org, Feed America, or the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK).

My loving condolences to all of Hal's family. Carol, I remember you and Hal and especially, Daniel, Peter, and Laura, whom I "cared for" as a young teen as their sitter. I so enjoyed caring, playing, and spending time with your children! I hold you all in prayer as you grieve and live on to honor Hal's memory. ~Andrea Saville White email: [email protected]

My deepest condolences to Hal's family. He was an esteemed colleague and friend--someone I always enjoyed conversing with and learning from. I remember some wonderful lunches with Hal and our Princeton colleague and mutual friend Stanley Kelley, Jr. They were characterized by good-natured political jousting and frequent bursts of laughter. Hal was an A+ human being and will be greatly missed.
