Selma, NC: Mr. Harold Robert Garner, age 83, of Primrose Street died Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the Spring Brook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clayton. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 12, 2024 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Mr. Bruce Garner. Burial will follow in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield, NC.
Mr. Garner was born on January 17, 1941 in Johnston County to the late John Junior and Mary Strickland Garner. He was preceded in death by his sister, Retha Barbour, and a brother, Donnie Garner. Mr. Garner was a salesman with Pritchard Paint and Glass for 50 years. He also worked for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture as an auditor. He attended Hardbargers College with an associate degree in accounting. Mr. Garner retired from Prudential Insurance Company in 2001 as an agent and financial advisor. Mr. Garner formed the King-Garner Group of the Carolinas and served as Vice President of the insurance and marketing. He has been involved with the Miss America Program for 50 years and presently serves as the executive director of the Miss Garner Scholarship Pageant and serves as chief judge for the Miss America Preliminaries. Mr. Garner was active in community affairs and was Governor of the Carolinas district of Kiwanis International for North and South Carolina from 2005-2006. He loved history and traveling and had his own museum. Mr. Garner was chairman of the committee that restored the Garner Depot for 29 years and it now stands as a museum.
Surviving are his sister and brothers, Kenneth Garner and wife, Polly of Durham, Carl Garner and wife, Diane of Zebulon, Bruce Garner and wife, Janice of Columbia, SC, Joyce Tyner and husband, Dennis of Smithfield; special sister-in-law, Chris McLamb and husband, Dennis of Dunn; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 3:00PM to 5:00PM on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks.
