Harold Kassab Obituary
Harold Kassab was a kind and humble man. Beneath his mildly tough exterior was a gentle, spiritual soul. A devout Catholic he took joy in attending Christ Our Light Church in Troy. The family dinners after Church were a wonderful tradition. Harold loved living in the home his Mother bought in the early sixties and lived there for over sixty-three years. It was a place for family dinners with brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews playing in their youth. Although, he didn't love the youngsters running in the house, he always taught with Love. Grandma's house became Uncle Harold's, but it was always the Kassab family home for all generations to enjoy. There was a special feeling about visiting Grandma's house and Harold loved family visits. He loved telling stories of his immigrant Mother, the family's success and their humble beginnings on the East side of Detroit.
Harold was a graduate and proud alumni of Eastern High School in Detroit and The University of Michigan where he earned a full ride academic scholarship. Harold was a loyal and lifetime member of the Detroit YMCA where he made his closest friendships on the handball court. Harold loved Classical, Jazz and Big Band music. And he never missed a daily crossword puzzle before pouring over the Barrons and Value Line financial reports, which he turned into a successful career as a private investor in the Stock Market and real estate. This success, along with his deep faith, allowed him to donate generously to local and national charities in service of Christ. He donated to Catholic Charities and among his favorites were Solanus Casey, The Capuchin Soup Kitchen and St. Vincent DePaul. He was also very generous to St. Judes, the Detroit rescue mission, Gleaners, Forgotten Harvest and countless other local charities to help the poor and in need. He also took special interest in local and downtown churches and Pro-Life causes such as American Life League and Mary's Mantle.
Harold prayed the Rosary every night at 6:30 which became a family tradition for anyone who wanted to join him. Mass on EWTN and rosaries with Bishop Reed and Mother Angelica were his favorites. He had a special love for Saint Padre Pio, Saint Mother Theresa and our Blessed Mother, Mary.
The family will always cherish the memory of Harold and his humble Life and philanthropy.
Harold is survived by his sister Oriat (Louis) Peters and 21 nieces and nephews.
