Mary Everly, age 87, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025 in
Troy, MI. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom, who passed away in November of 2023. Mary is the mother of Ernie (Tracy), Mark (Colleen), Greg (Kim) and Kristen Cavender (Roger), grandmother of Shannon Baecker (Alex), Molly Dery (Patrick), Bryce, Tommy, Mason, Lily, Rory and Nicholas, and great grandmother of Marvin Dery. She is the youngest of 14 siblings, survived by Ann Terese and Patricia, predeceased by Tom, Rita, Margaret, John, Jim, Joanne, Jerome, Geralda, Dick, Bob, and Joe.
Mary prioritized her Faith and family above all others. She adored her Mullen and Everly families, which were the focus of her life from a young age through her twilight years. Mary loved life and lived it to the fullest – even through her later years when her memory, not her spirit, was diminished. Never shy, nor ever shying away from gatherings, she was in her glory with any combination of a full house, a full kitchen, or a full pool. In addition to her family, her lifelong friendships from St. James High School ('56), to her neighbors in Madison Heights and Troy, spanned more than 65 years of her life.
Mary grew up on Hazelhurst St. in Ferndale, MI, across from St. James High School. She attended St. James where at the age of 13, she met her late husband Tom at the 1st high school dance (Sadie Hawkins) they attended together. After high school Mary worked in downtown Detroit, marrying Tom in February of 1963, where they started their family life in their 1st home on Vermont Ave. in Royal Oak.
Mary's love was raising her children and molding her family. She enjoyed flowers and gardening at each of their homes over the course of their 62-year marriage. Her prize yard was that on 306 Eckford Court, a yard she and Tom equally enjoyed tending to, and enjoyed that much more with family, neighbors and friends.
Mary packed a world of wisdom into her modest stature. One on her many sayings to her children - never burn bridges. She exemplified this by making new friendships wherever she went and with whom she met, building bridges throughout her life, up to, and including her last peaceful days. Mary's Catholic Faith and Irish roots were the foundation of her spirit and her zest for life, never wavering and always seeing and finding the good in others.
The family will receive friends Sunday (November 30) from 1-6PM with Scripture service at 5PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd. (between Maple & Big Beaver).
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday (December 1) 10:30AM at Christ, Our Light! Catholic Church, 3077 Glouchester Dr., Troy. Visitation at the church begins at 10AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the
