Harold Clifton Kirkpatrick

Harold Clifton Kirkpatrick, cherished by many and a beloved figure of Eufaula, Oklahoma gracefully departed this earthly realm on January 10, 2026, in the comfort of his home. Hal was born on November 13, 1939, in McAlester, Oklahoma. From a young age he embraced a life filled with joy and creativity.

Hal grew up in Quinton, OK and moved his senior year to Eufaula, OK. He graduated from Eufaula High School in 1957 and continued his education at Oklahoma State University (Go Pokes!) where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English Education in 1961. He later attended Oklahoma City University and earned a Master’s degree in Education Administration.

At OSU, he was active in the Men’s Glee Club and the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). He continued to serve the United States Army after college and went to boot camp in Ft. Benning, GA. Afterwards, he was stationed in Germany for 22 months.

In October of 1964, he married Freda Stone in Baumholder, West Germany. Later, on March 6, 1980, he married his High School sweetheart, Phyllis Parker in Eufaula, Oklahoma. Together, they created a family filled with love, laughter, and warmth.

Hal spent many rewarding years as a teacher, where his fun presence made a meaningful difference in the hearts of his students. He was known for hyping up the school during pep rallies where they would chant “Kirk! Kirk!” before somersaulting onto the high school stage. After a motivational speech the students would chant “Socks! Socks!” He would then show his maroon argyle socks. He was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1994, a testament to his passion for education.

Hal’s devotion of service led him to serve honorably in the United States Army Reserves throughout his teaching career and eventually, working as an active duty officer for eight years where he reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He dedicated himself to his country, earning many commendations for excellence including multiple Meritorious Service Medals and Army Commendation Medals.

Hal was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, lending his voice to the choir and serving on various committees. He was also active in the First Baptist Church Adult II Sunday School Class for over 30 years.

Hal enjoyed OSU athletics, car shopping, Broadway musicals, PBS Sunday night TV, James Bond movies, and eating at Pete’s Place in Krebs, OK. He also loved to go hunting and fishing with friends. He especially enjoyed his trips hunting in Wyoming and deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.

He was the author of one novella, poems, short stories, and hilarious tales where his thoughts and inspiration continue to touch lives.

Left to carry on his vibrant spirit are his devoted wife, Phyllis Kirkpatrick of the home, his three daughters, Kelli Cutshall of Benbrook, TX, Julie Smith of Eufaula, OK, Hadley Tolle and husband, Greg of Sapulpa, OK, and son, Ty Kirkpatrick and wife, Colleen, of Roland, OK.

He is also survived by five adoring grandchildren, Spencer Tolle of Bixby, OK; Drew Hutchinson of Washington D.C.; Bridget Tolle of Iwamizawa, Hokkaido, Japan; Kendyl Cutshall of Benbrook, TX; and Tanner Taylor of Shelbyville, TX as well as cousins, extended family, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Horace and Georgia Kirkpatrick.

Hal’s life was one of service, laughter, inspiration, and love. He will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
