SIDNEY - Harold Christopher "Chris" Labbe, 54, of Sidney, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Chris was born in Waterville, the son of Harold B. and Judith E. (Dow) Labbe. A 1989 graduate of Messalonskee High School, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business administration and human resources from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. While at the university, he proudly played on the Arkansas Razorbacks football team-Woo Pig Sooie!

His passion for learning did not stop there. Chris later graduated with honors from River Valley College in Claremont, NH, with a degree in Nursing. He continued to grow professionally, earning certifications including Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community (MHRT/C) and Lifeguard training-completing the latter alongside his grandson at Scout camp.

Chris served his country for two years in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Bliss, TX. Among his many duties, he was honored to serve as a Post Honor Guard, participating in military funerals with great respect and pride.

In 1999, Chris began a distinguished career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he worked first as an officer and later as a registered nurse until his retirement in 2018. His nursing career led him to serve in various locations from Arkansas to Maine, including time as a traveling nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A deeply compassionate and community-minded individual, Chris gave generously of his time. While living in Arkansas, he was a member of Elks Lodge #380 and Boy Scout Troop #10 in Hot Springs. He volunteered for Camp Sunshine and the Special Olympics of Arkansas in Little Rock. A devoted Eagle Scout dad, he remained active with Boy Scout Troop #401 in Sidney, where he was especially proud to mentor his grandson, Wyatt.

Chris was also a self-taught grant writer, successfully securing donations-such as Bombas socks-for unhoused individuals, families in need, and children's Christmas programs.

A lifelong Razorbacks fan, Chris never missed a game-even on his wedding day in October 2021, when he married his loving wife, Tonya. He enjoyed estate sales, time at the shooting range, sharing meals with others, listening to all types of music, and relaxing under the trees at camp.

Chris was incredibly proud of his 28 years of sobriety and was always willing to support and encourage others on their own recovery journeys.

He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, and friend-known for his generosity, humor, off pitch signing, unwavering support and his love was so strong he would drop everything to support you. Chris had a unique ability to lift people up, bring laughter to the moment, and inspire others to be their best selves.

He was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Tonya Philbrick-Labbe; his son Harold Daniel Labbe and significant other Emma Shields; daughter, Mary Ellen Labbe; his stepson, Justin Philbrick-Michaud and wife Celine; step-grandchildren: Wyatt Day, Sawyer Philbrick, and Tyler Philbrick; his siblings: Gary Labbe and wife Angela, and MacKenzie Labbe; nephew, Lawson Althouse; his aunt, Joan Bickford; as well as many close friends.

There will be no formal services held. To honor Chris' memory, we kindly ask that you pay it forward when the opportunity arises-just as he so often did and encouraged others to do. It was one of the values he held most dear.

In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation to the: Harold Christopher Labbe Memorial and mailed to Kennebec Savings Bank, 150 State St., Augusta, ME 04330. The fund will be converted to a nonprofit organization, where its mission will include providing scholarships for Scout dues and sending a Scout to camp. The organization will be continuing the grant-writing efforts Chris was so passionate about-helping bridge the gap between community needs and available resources.

Arrangements are by Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, ME 04330.

I worked with Harold at the federal prison. When I was brand new he was always cool and willing to teach me and show me the ropes. He was a gentle giant with a good heart, a true gentleman. My condolences to the family. Rest easy Labbe.

I met Harold for the first time in a zoom training. Then was fortunate enough to get to work with him. He had such a positive outlook and a kind soul. I always knew his day was "fantastic" when I would ask him how he was doing. My sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.
