Harold Johnson Lyman

Harold Johnson Lyman, a beacon of light and pillar of strength, passed away peacefully of natural causes
on October 24, 2023, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born on January 9, 1931, in Cortez, Colorado, Dad's life was
marked by his unwavering commitment to service, his love for his family, and his profound passion for
life.
His journey began in Cortez, Colorado, where he was born to the late Raymond Finlinson and Maggie
Johnson Lyman. He was the beloved brother to Raymond, Dale (deceased), Marcia (deceased),
Katherine, Austin, and Layne. He was also the cherished husband of the late Arlene Ebelt and the proud
father to Rick, Lori, Jill, and Kitt. Dad's legacy continues with his 20 grandchildren and 34 great-
grandchildren, with another soon to join the family.
Education played a significant role in Dad's life. He graduated from San Juan High School and spent a
year at Brigham Young University, paving the way for a lifetime of learning and personal growth. Dad
served his country during the Korean War and later became a respected figure in his community. His
professional career was marked by leadership roles, including Manager at the First Security Bank, the
Department of Workforce Services, and the Blanding Visitors Center.
His contributions to his community were immense. He served as a San Juan School District Board
Member and President, and he played a significant role in establishing the San Juan campus of the
College of Eastern Utah, where he received an Honorary Associate and Doctorate degrees. His
dedication to service earned him numerous accolades, including Blanding Citizen of the Year, and
membership in the Utah Tourism Hall of Fame. For many years, he served as a Volunteer Coordinator
of the Blue Mountain Hospital in Blanding, the Director and President of the Blanding Chamber of
Commerce, and the Vice Chairman of the San Juan County Economic Development Board.
Our Father was a man of deep faith, serving as a Ward Clerk for several years and a member of the High
Council. His three greatest joys in life were his faith, his family, and the opportunity to bring value to
everyone he met. His life was a living testament to these values.
Dad's love for the outdoors was palpable. He cherished the clean air of San Juan County, relished in the
joy of discovering arrowheads, and was an avid hiker. His stories about San Juan County and Blanding
brought smiles and laughter to everyone who listened. His love for his home was infectious, inspiring
others to appreciate the beauty around them.
Dad was a loving, selfless, and passionate man. His unwavering dedication to service, his love for his
family, and his zest for life, have left an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege to know him.
As we honor his life, let us remember not only his achievements but also his spirit. Let us strive to live as
he did, with love, selflessness, and passion. Let us carry his legacy forward, in our hearts and in our
actions.
Dad, your light continues to shine in all of us. Your legacy lives on in the love you shared, the lives you
touched, and the difference you made. You have left this world a better place, and for that, we are
eternally grateful. Rest in paradise, Dad. Your earthly journey has come to an end, but your story
continues on in all of us.
