Hawkins Funeral Homes - BridgeportBridgeport~ Harold Juan “Red” Mercer, 71, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday , September 3, 2025 in Bridgeport.
Memorial Service is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27th, 2025 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport.
Juan was born on June 15, 1954 in Bridgeport. He is survived by his daughter, Madeline Mercer and partner Joe Shamburger; his two grandsons, Cason and Caden Jobe; his sister and caretaker, Marla Mercer; other siblings Becky and husband Michael Watkins of Sanger; brother, Jim Mercer and Wife Tina of Ranger; sister, Linda Barnett; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, countless friends and rodeo buddies.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Mercer; father, Marvin D. Mercer; stepmother, Jo Mercer; sisters, Marsha Cantrell and Kay Loftis; son in law, Cody Jobe; and nephew, Tim Cobb.
Juan was a character larger than life. A storyteller, salesman, and rodeo clown at heart. He could entertain anyone with his wild tales, that were maybe embellished, yet always rooted in truth or personal experience. He had done it all. He enjoyed team roping and anything that involved rodeo. Juan spent many days and hours around a rodeo arena, as did his family. He spent many years entertaining the masses as a Rodeo clown with his trusty mule sidekick, Sugar, the 1979 oatesmobille. He loved helping people, and he loved to cook. Selfless in all ways, you just had to ask. He was a wonderful dad, papa, brother, uncle, teacher and friend to so many. A man that never met a stranger.
