Harold E. Mummert, age 87, of Winchester, VA, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025. He was born on January 24, 1938, in Chambersburg and raised on a dairy farm in Franklin County, PA. He was the son of the late Paul and Mary (Karper) Mummert. Harold graduated from Chambersburg Area High School.
He loved baseball and played locally in the Franklin County league. He was drafted by two teams in 1956 and finished out his baseball career with the Detroit Tigers farm team in 1959. He also loved the game of golf and won many club championships.
He was employed by Horns Trucking, Charles Karper Trucking, and finished his career as Head of Transportation with Valley Proteins.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Winchester, VA.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn (Weigle) Mummert, whom he married on April 1, 1966; three children, Kathy Spahr (husband Denny), Stacey Nethers (husband Jeff), Debra Smith McIntyre (husband Iain); five grandchildren, Tyler Duke (wife Meagan), Chelsea Fox, Chase Nethers (wife Mary), Victoria Smith Walton (husband Joseph), Mitchell Smith; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Mummert (wife Claire), and sister-in-law, Betty Mummert. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Glenn Mummert (wife Nelle), Kenneth Mummert, and Earl Mummert (wife Christine).
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4856 Wayne Road (Rte 316), Chambersburg, PA 17201. Allan Mummert and David Mummert will officiate. A luncheon will be provided following the memorial service.
Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
Memorial Contributions "In Memory of Harold Mummert" may be made in lieu of flowers to The Village at Orchard Ridge, Memory Care Unit, 400 Clocktower Ridge Drive, Winchester, VA 22603.
