Harold (Harry) Francis Schmitz, 77, Westphalia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 21, 2025. He was born a son of the late Raymond and Martha Schmitz on April 7, 1948. He was a 1966 graduate of Fatima High School.

Harry was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served two tours of duty from 1967-1969, with an elite team specializing as an Underwater Demolition Technician (UDT) and Army frogman. Upon returning home from service, he attended Lincoln University. Harry went into the family business manufacturing livestock feed at Westphalia Milling Company where he later became a third-generation co-owner.

Harry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jan (Null) Schmitz; his children, Aaron (Kristin), and Lee (Jessica) Schmitz; his grandchildren, Korbett, Teagan, and Hunter; and his siblings, Jim, Stanley, Ralph and Barbara.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond and Martha Schmitz; and sister: Mary Lea.

Harry's life was defined by courage, devotion, and an unwavering love and commitment to his family and friends. His service to his country remained a cornerstone of his character. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quick wit, passion for the outdoors, and gardening.

A Private Service will be held on the family property at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org or to a charity of choice.
