Harold Smith, 91, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
Harold was born in Monroe Co., TN on June 22, 1933, to William Calvin Lafayette “Boss” Smith and Mary Kathleen Floyd Smith. He was a hard-working man who spent his early years working at Bendabout Farms before dedicating his career to the Bradley County Road Department, where he eventually retired.
An avid outdoorsman, Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was known for his outgoing personality, never meeting a stranger, and was deeply loved by all who knew him. He was especially fond of hugging the ladies. Harold's legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
Harold is survived by his loving wife, Maebell Hitson Smith; his daughters Nancy Swinford, Cathy Smith (husband Larry Perry), and Connie Smith; his grandchildren Charles Swinford, Heather Cisco, and James Michael Sutton; and his great-grandchildren Cid Swinford, Ebony Lister, and Carson White. He was preceded in death by his great-grandchild, Trevi’Onyah Cisco.
He is also survived by his brother, Carroll “Red” Smith (wife Sue Smith). He was preceded in death by his siblings Ida Mae Hitson, Ruth Brannon, Clarice Bonine, and La Smith Sr.
His funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, March 12, 2025 in the chapel of Poole Funeral Home, Cleveland with Pastor Donald Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with James Michael Sutton, Cid Swinford, Curtis Simmons, Michael Dickerson, Lebron Hitson, and Daniel Burnette serving as pallbearers. Sharon Foskey will provide special music for the service.
The family will receive friends from 12 - 2 PM Wednesday at Poole Funeral Home, Cleveland.
