Harold Richard Stewart, affectionately known as Richard by his loved ones, passed away peacefully at his home in Marlow, Oklahoma, on March 3, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on August 3, 1952, in Fresno, California, to James Harold Stewart and Hazel Jean (Womack) Stewart, Richard grew up in a warm and loving family, which would later become the cornerstone of his own life as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Richard's journey through life was marked by his unwavering faith and dedication to serving others. He spent many years as a pastor with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, touching countless lives with his compassionate spirit and wise counsel. In addition to his pastoral work, Richard was also a skilled carpet installer, a trade he practiced with precision and pride until his retirement. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all he did, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him professionally.
Beyond his professional life, Richard was a man of many passions. He found solace in the tranquility of fishing, often spending hours by the water's edge, basking in the serenity of nature. His love for his family was paramount, and he cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was at home or on one of their many adventures together. Richard's love for his dogs was equally profound, and they were his constant companions, sharing in the joys of everyday life.
An avid motorcyclist, Richard's sense of freedom and adventure was ignited on the open road, with the wind in his hair and the sun on his face. He was also a culinary enthusiast, always eager to fire up the grill and experiment with new recipes, much to the delight of his family and friends. His love for antiquing was another pastime that allowed him to explore the stories and history behind each unique find.
Richard's friendly demeanor, kind heart, and thoughtful nature made him a beloved figure in his community. He had the rare ability to make everyone feel seen and heard, and his presence was a source of comfort and joy to many.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his wife, Donna (Owens) Stewart; his children, Richie Stewart, Christopher Stewart, Kasinda Stewart, and Kelli Sweat & husband Cody; his grandchildren, Ricky Adamson, Seth Hoyle, Caiden Sweat, J.T. Sweat, and Hazel Grace Sweat; and his brother, Mike Stewart. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Stewart; his brother, Jim Stewart; and his grandson, Gavyn Sweat.
Richard's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one person can have on the world around them. His memory will be held in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his spirit will continue to inspire those he has left behind.
As we bid farewell to Harold Richard Stewart, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the grace of a man who truly understood the essence of family, faith, and friendship. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
A Memorial Service in Richard's honor will be held at a later date in Quitman, LA. Memorial contributions in Richard's honor may be made to the Stephens County Humane Society or the City of Winnfield, LA Animal Shelter.
