Harold J. Teague
Dr. Harold J. Teague, affectionately known as "Mack" was four days shy of being 84 years of age. He left this world on Oct. 30, 2025 after an extended illness. He was a shining light in the lives of family and friends and the hundreds of students who had the privilege of knowing and studying with him. His journey on earth was marked by a commitment to excellence, love, compassion and an unwavering faith in God.
Dr. Teague attended Massey Hill High School in Fayetteville where he graduated with the highest academic average in the school. He continued his educational studies and graduated from the Methodist College in Fayetteville and went to N.C. State University where he received a Master's Degree and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. He accepted a position in the Science Department upon graduation at what was then known as Pembroke State University and taught a number of different classes but he specialized in Organic Chemistry. Dr. Teague was dedicated and immensely proud of his students who became doctors, veterinarians, nurses, scientists and academic leaders. One of his students, Dr. Curt Locklear established an Endowed Scholarship in honor of Dr. Teague. This scholarship will help students to pursue their studies and to continue the legacy of Dr. Harold Teague.
His passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends and the hundreds of students whose lives he touched in the 47 years that he taught at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
Dr. Teague attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Lumberton for most of his life although he remained a dedicated Baptist. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and served as president and was a member of numerous academic societies.
Dr. Teague had a close-knit family. He was preceded in death by his mother Luvenia Teague, his father Clyde Teague, brothers Seavy and Roy Teague and a sister Vickie Pearl Johnson of Hope Mills and his beautiful daughter Anne Marie Teague of Los Angeles, California. We hope that you will remember Dr. Teague as a person who loved his family and students.
