Harriet Rodgers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Homes and Crematory - Washington St. on Jul. 5, 2021.
Harriet "Sue" Rodgers, 83, of Greenwood, formerly of Columbus, passed away at 2:06 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Community Hospital South.
Sue was born August 7, 1937, in Franklin, Indiana, the daughter of Lawrence and Edith Irene Weaver Mosier. On January 2, 1952, she married the love of her life, Jesse Rodgers.
Sue attended Edinburgh High School. In her youth, she worked as a "soda jerk" at Shaffer's Drug Store and Bakery in Edinburgh. After raising her children, Sue went on to work at McDonalds for 27 years in Columbus, Indiana.
Never meeting a stranger, she was known by many nicknames. To name just a fewSusie Q, Sue Baby, Sweet Sue, Sassy Sue and Harry. She was a mom to everyone, always welcoming friends and family into her home for a meal. Mrs. Rodgers enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, camping, fishing with her dad, eating out, shopping and traveling.
Her ability to make people laugh with her quirky one-liners is a memory shared by all who know her. Her radiant smile and kind nature made loving her so easy. Family gatherings always brought great joy to Sue. She loved being with friends, hanging out, playing card games, block parties, going to summer concerts in the parks, roller skating with her husband, Jesse at the Roxy, where they met and Columbus Skate Land. Sue was also a survivor of Polio at the age of 3. Sue underwent many surgeries at Riley Hospital for Children. She did not let this get her down as she would hop, skip or jump just as well as her friends while utilizing crutches. Today, she is skipping in heaven reunited with Jesse, family and friends. "Don't worry about me, I am fine!" Yes, in the loving arms of Jesus, she is home and doing fine.
Survivors include her children, Allen (Melinda) Rodgers of Columbus, Rhonda (Dave) Tutton of Greenwood, Rick (Debbie) Rodgers, also of Columbus; grandchildren, Eric Rodgers, Megan Rodgers, Devin (Mitch) Dewenger, Parris Rodgers, Jessica (Drew) Schmollinger, Tyler (Sylvia Riser) Tutton, Kyle (Dena) Tutton; great-grandchildren, Hunter Jackson, Ella Jackson, Kinsley Johnson, Liam Rodgers, Bexley Rodgers, Emma Schmollinger, Noah Schmollinger, Alexa Tutton and George Tutton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse; brother, Robert Mosier; nephews, Randy and Terry Mosier; aunt, Helen Willard; cousin, Keith Mosier; infant great-grandson, James Tutton.
Sue was a member of The Parkside Baptist Church in Columbus.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street, Columbus Indiana, with Dr. William Bailey officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
