Lucy T. Hosterman, 85, of Columbus, passed from this life at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Lucy was born August 25, 1940 in
Columbia, Tennessee, the daughter of Thomas D. and Jane Ouellette Tracy. In 1962, she married Oliver Charles Hosterman.
Lucy started teaching through a fellowship with Ohio State University while working on her Master's Degree in early childhood development. After Charlie and Lucy were married, they had two children. After a few years of staying at home, Lucy went back to work initially hosting a radio program with the local Circleville radio station. Later she became a full time home economics and life skills teacher at West Fall High School, from which she eventually retired.
She was an avid collector of antique furniture, dolls, pottery, art as well as Native American art. She amassed an extensive button collection which she displayed on framed cards. She was accomplished in sewing and in multiple yarn work disciplines such as needlepoint, counted cross-stitch, rug-hooking, and knitting. Her button displays, needle works, and rugs won multiple awards. Lucy was quite the chef, often introducing the family to less pedestrian dishes such as coq au vin, ratatouille, roast duck, and a variety of others.
Lucy traveled throughout her lifetime individually and with her family. She was an exchange student in France during her attendance at Lake Erie College. She came home on the Queen Mary. After she married Charlie, they traveled to the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. Later, as a high school teacher, she accompanied multiple student trips to England, France, and Spain. She also traveled to Italy with friends. The family spent multiple consecutive summers on Burt Lake in northern Michigan.
Lucy loved to read, and was an active member of a book club. Lucy also played bridge with a local bridge club in Circleville and for a while in
Columbus, IN. Lucy was very active in her community throughout her life participating in several plays with the Round Town Players in Circleville, Ohio during her earlier years. She was a long time member of St. Philips Episcopal Church in
Circleville, OH.
Later, Lucy moved to
Columbus, IN to be closer to her daughter and granddaughters. She made many friends through the condominium community where she lived and through St. Paul's Episcopal Church in
Columbus, IN.
She will be deeply missed by those that know and love her.
Survivors include her daughter, Tracy Hosterman of Columbus; granddaughters, Katherine S. DeLap, Sarah J. DeLap; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, O. Charles Hosterman, her son, Christopher Charles Hosterman, and both her brothers Dan and William Tracy.
In keeping with the family's request, cremation will take place and a memorial service honoring Lucy's life will be held at 1:00 p.m.,Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Br. Aelred Dean officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday, 1:00 pm, at the funeral home.
Inurnment will take place at Forest Cemetery in Circleville, Ohio at a later date.
