Harriet "Fran" Rodrigue, born on August 26, 1940, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away at her home on November 3, 2025. As a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and, recently, great-great grandmother, Fran leaves behind a vibrant legacy nurtured by her unwavering love for family and her passions.
A graduate of Shortridge High School, class of 1958, Fran dedicated much of her professional life to her role as an administrative assistant. She worked in various fields, including healthcare, where she served for the Director of Nursing at Winona Hospital in Indianapolis, and earlier within the Washington Township school system for Superintendent H. Dean Evans. After retiring from Dupont in DeLisle, Mississippi in 2002, she and her beloved husband Rod rebuilt their beautiful home, taking care to position it north of I-10 to shield against future hurricanes.
Fran had a profound love for reading, often visiting the local library with fervor. Her passion was so spirited that she would devour eight books in just two weeks and was known to reserve another set to carry her through the next fortnight. A whimsical habit of hers included placing a distinctive dot on the top of book pages to mark those she had already read, a secret kept from the librarians of Brownsburg.
A woman of wit and warmth, Fran possessed a wonderfully wry sense of humor, often delighting those around her with her playful remarks, a raised eyebrow, and a glance over her glasses. Though initially shy, she blossomed into a devoted friend to those fortunate enough to know her.
Her family meant the world to her, and she demonstrated fierce loyalty, embodying the spirit of a "Mama Bear." She is survived by her daughters Debra (McLean) Christoff (Bill)and Lisa (McLean) Sharpe (Mike), along with her grandchildren Marie, Jill, Christi, Mike, Jessica, and Cassie, and her great-grandchildren Paige, Desi, Parker, Noah, Hunter, Oskar, Jayden, Jaliyah, Kylie, and Caiden. She also recently greeted a great-great grandson, Bentley. She is also remembered fondly by her aunt Joyce Wilhoite, cousin Doug, and her cousin Rachel.
Fran was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rod, their cherished Papillons, Sugar and Cookie, and all the other four-legged family members they adored. She is also reunited with her sisters Joyce, Dinah, and Billie Jo, who had a special place in her heart.
Fran's life will be celebrated with a viewing on November 10, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan - Speedway in Indianapolis from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Crown Hill National Cemetery on November 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
Fran's spirit and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but always remembered for her love, humor, and the warm bonds of family that she cherished above all else.
