When Miller Pope did his best work, he was invisible. As a long-time broadcast engineer for Atlanta sports teams Falcons, Hawks, Braves, Yellow Jackets, and the United, his goal was to showcase the game and make listeners feel like they were sitting right next to the announcers. But his big presence and personality are what made him so visible and memorable to those around him. Harris Miller Pope, Jr. passed away at his home on May 27, 2024, and is now setting up to broadcast from a new location.

Miller was born on February 12, 1959 to Harris Miller Pope, Sr. and Esther White Pope. He lived much of his youth in Thomasville, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roy Madison "Dusty" White, Jr., and his nephew Matthew Harris White. He is survived by his sister Esther Sitton White, his sister-in-law Sylvia White, his nephew Michael White (Elizabeth), and the great niece and great nephews he adored: Helen, Davis, and Harris White, all of North Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also survived by his special aunt, Bettie Ivie Pope, cousins Jim and Debbie Pope Smith, of Marietta, GA, and many more cousins.

Miller began his radio career at WGST. He became a broadcast engineer for Georgia Tech basketball and was a studio engineer for the Braves Network and many other non-sports related programming. He was a broadcast engineer for UGA football for many years and treasured the opportunity to be a part of Bulldog broadcasting during Larry Munson's tenure. He split his loyalty when he began engineering for Georgia Tech and was proud to be a part of the Yellow Jackets organization today.

Miller was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2020 and honored for his professional work, but his best work was in the cultivation of friends and family. He was a gardener who nurtured his relationships. Miller was a quick wit and was friendly. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of sports and wasn't afraid to share. He was a favorite companion for many and will be greatly missed.

A memorial Service will be held at 2pm on June 7, 2024 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. Visitation will be from 1pm until 2pm, and a reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Releash Atlanta @ www.releashatlanta.com
