John David Pope, Jr., 81, entered into rest on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
John was born on July 14, 1943, in Belzoni, Mississippi to the late John David Pope, Sr. and Margaret Pope Sullivan. After high school, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and honorably served through three tours in Vietnam, ultimately earning himself the Rifle Marksman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal before retiring. Following his military service, he worked at the Houston County Board of Education in maintenance until his retirement, at which point he began working as a truck driver. He will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Barry Pope, Terry Pope, Jean Blanchard, and Linda Pope King.
His memory will forever be treasured by his daughters, Geanne Pope, Eva Pope, and Tracy Alexander (Michael) and sisters, Sherry Ross and Betty Mengel.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Magnolia Park Cemetery, where John will be laid to rest.
