Harrison W. "Buddy" Flanagin Sr.

Harrison W. "Buddy" Flanagin, Sr., age 78 of North Tazewell, VA died Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. He was born April 22, 1943 in Horsepen, VA and was a son of the late Raymond Flanagin and Nannie Mae Chambers Flanagin Matney. Mr. Flanagin had worked for many years as a coalminer with local mines in Buchanan County, VA and drove a coal truck for the mines after that. He enjoyed repairing lawnmowers and mowing yards was his passion. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved family get-togethers. He brought life to any event he participated in and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his life. Buddy was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and was a friend to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris Jean Whitt Flanagin; an infant sister, Ruby Flanagin; three sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Swim, Shirley Horn and Nancy Horn; one brother, Wayne Flanagin.
Those who survive to cherish his memory include his companion for over thirty years, Susan Griffith; three sons, Junior Flanagin and wife, Linda of North Tazewell, VA, Doug Flanagin and wife, Carol of Hillsboro, NC, and Greg Whitt and companion, Victoria of West Virginia; three daughters, Lisa Bryant and companion Larry of North Tazewell, VA, Trish White of Normandy, TN and Becky Griffith and companion, Tim of Rocky Mount, VA; two sisters, Linda Lou Williamson and husband, Bernard and Dale Ketchum and husband, John both of Mudfork, VA; one brother, Richard Matney and companion, Pat of Boissevain, VA; thirteen grandchildren, Sara Poff, Lee Whitt, Bryant Flanagin, Monroe Flanagin, Tengin Oldham, Angie Oldham, Stevie Bryant, Terry Bryant, Stephen Bryant, Isabel Griffith, Zackary Griffith, Madyson Wynn and Jaden Wynn; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive.
Funeral Services for Mr. Flanagin will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Pastor Carol Cornwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Brown's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mudfork, VA. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 – 2 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022.
