Harry Artrip Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Christler Funeral Home Prudenville Chapel on Feb. 16, 2026.
Harry Lee Artrip, age 91, of Prudenville, passed away peacefully on Monday February 9th, 2026 at King Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a prolonged illness.

Harry was born on November 16, 1934 in Dante, Virginia to Walter and Garnett (McCullick) Artrip. Being raised in the small mining town of Clinchco, Virginia, Harry learned the value of hard work and developed a love for the mountains. As a young man he occasionally spent days in the hills of Virginia building shelters, hunting and fishing. He later moved to Detroit to support his mother and sister where he met and married Vivian, his loving wife of 52 years. Together they enjoyed traveling with friends, camping and country line dancing, even showing off their matching outfits and smooth moves on the Wild Horse Saloon TV show in Nashville, TN.

Harry worked building and installing windows and doors for Master Seal and eventually for industrial buildings including hospitals, jails and even Ford Field. He was always willing to share these skills helping family and friends with projects. Although living near Detroit, Harry never lost his love for the outdoors, training beagles to hunt rabbits and teaching his grandkids the finer points of fishing. He loved spending time with his grandkids, Sarah & Matt, his "best buddies." After living in Sterling Heights and Rochester Hills, he moved north to be near family and live on Lake James. He had a sense of humor that could bring a smile to all he met with his kindness and witty jokes. Harry was well loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Surviving Harry Artrip are his daughter, Patricia (Steve) Vujovich; granddaughter Sarah (Josh) Harrison; grandson Matthew (Kimberly) Vujovich; and great granddaughter Adelaide Harrison. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Vivian Artrip, son, Harry M Artrip, brothers, Bill & Bob Artrip, and sisters, Dorothy Burress and Shirley Langlois.

A Celebration of Life for Harry L. Artrip will be conducted at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Harry are asked to be directed to the A.R.K (Assosciation to Rescue Kritters) or the Roscommon County Animal Shelter. Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
