Harry Balquist Obituary

Harry Hall Balquist, 94, of Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, passed away at AHN-Grove City on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. He was born in Pittsburgh, on May 29, 1931, to Michael Francis and Adelaide Hall Balquist. He married Margarete M. "Greta" Jansson Balquist, who preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2015. Harry graduated from Peabody High School in Pittsburgh and later served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he graduated from the University of Maryland. Harry was a commercial vehicle leasing agent and, after retiring, spent 10 years driving for Manheim Auto Auction. He was a life member of the Teutonia Mannerchor German Club of Pittsburgh. Harry enjoyed attending the Oktoberfest and his annual trip to Myrtle Beach. Survivors include daughter, Karen A. Balquist (Anthony Papale) of Pittsburgh; son, Ross H. (Christine) Balquist of Slippery Rock, PA; and two grandchildren, Ian and MacKenzie Balquist. He was preceded in death by his wife. The family will hold a celebration of life service for Harry at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Slippery Rock.

Harry and I worked together but became friends because that was who was. He and I also shared many of the Saturday night B shift tailgates as he loved a cold beer.
