Harry H. Beck Jr. of
Croydon, PA, passed away peacefully on his 84th birthday, Sunday, May 19, 2024 at his residence, Legacy Gardens of Bristol. Born at his home in Croydon, he was a resident of Croydon for over 80 years before moving to Levittown, then
Bristol, PA.
Affectionately known by his family as "Junior", Harry was one of eleven children born to Anna Mae (nee Foster) and Harry H. Beck Sr. Growing up in the close-knit community of Croydon, he spent his early school years at St. Luke's School before transitioning to high school until the 10th grade. Harry left high school and continued to work for his Uncle Horace Beck's Coal and Ice Business delivering to William Levitt's Development at that time. It was during these days that he could be spotted cruising the streets of Croydon in his cherished baby blue Bonneville Convertible.
In October 1963, Harry's path took a turn when he was drafted into the United States Army, stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington. His service spanned two years, filled with stories and experiences he would later share proudly with his family. Completing his active duty in October 1965 stateside, he continued his commitment to his country by serving in the Army Reserves until September 1969.
Returning to civilian life, Harry found his niche in the Levittown area, where he began a career delivering oil to the rapidly expanding Bucks County area as a truck driver for Meenan Oil. In July 1966, he embarked on another significant journey, marrying Sharen Lee Thompson and began his family. As with many of his family members, he dedicated 19 years of service as a volunteer firefighter with the Croydon Fire Department. Throughout his career in the oil business, Harry worked for various companies including Croydon Fuel, Jesse Terry Oil, Waste Management, and Exxon. His journey eventually led him to Overnight Transportation in the 1980s, where he concluded his professional endeavors before retiring. Harry's passion was camping, hunting and spending time with his family, particularly in the serene landscapes of Tower City/Clark's Valley, PA. He started hunting very young at the age of 16. These moments, shared with his brother-in-law, Mike Tenaglia, and later expanded to include his son, Harry, nephews, brothers, brothers-in-law, and friends, became cherished memories that filled his heart. Christmas held a special significance for Harry, as he believed in the magic of the season and made it his mission to ensure that his family experienced the wonder and magic it brought forth. In retirement, Harry's partner in crime was his sister, Mae Tenaglia. They spent countless afternoons together sipping coffee and sharing family stories and Croydon gossip.
