Harry Keith Hopkins, Jr. was born on June 19, 1959, in Jacksonville, Florida, and passed away on April 8, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Nan Hopkins, and a loving father to his two daughters, Kyle and Sarah Hopkins. He was also cherished as a brother by his sister, Sherry Willis.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 PM, Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment will be held following the service at 2:30 pm, at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Military Honors according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Harry was an individual of remarkable kindness and warmth, coupled with a keen wit that made conversations with him truly enjoyable. His passion for learning and sharing knowledge was evident throughout his life. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from The Citadel in 1981 and later obtained a Master of Science in Public Administration from Columbus College in 1991. His dedication to the study of history, particularly military history, was a defining aspect of his character. Harry loved to engage in discussions about historical events and shared this passion with his family and friends, making history come alive with his insightful storytelling.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Harry served his country honorably in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Captain. This experience further shaped his appreciation for history and the sacrifices made by those who served.
Harry found great joy in spending time with his family. He had a penchant for reading and a love for watching movies together, creating treasured memories that his family will carry with them.
He is survived by his wife, Nan; his daughters, Kyle and Sarah; and his sister, Sherry. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Keith Hopkins Sr., and his mother, Joan Hopkins.
Harry Keith Hopkins, Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a profound appreciation for the past. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.
