Harry Horn Obituary

Harry A. "Al" Horn passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the age of 85 after a protracted illness initiated by a rare and aggressive skin cancer. The cancer spawned other medical issues which continued after the cancer was no longer present.
Al was born in Wilmington, Delaware on January 25, 1940 to the late Harry A., Sr. and Louise (Moore) Horn. He attended H. Fletcher Brown Vocational High School before being accepted in an apprenticeship with the Sheet Metal Workers Union to become a sheet metal mechanic. After graduation, he went to work for T.T. Weldin for a number of years before going to work in the HVAC business owned by his two uncles. Eventually, Al became the sole owner of this business.
Al was a man who relished outdoor activities, whether they be projects, lawn care, boating, water skiing (including barefoot skiing) or snow skiing. He enjoyed traveling, was fond of animals, and loved, most of all, spending time with his family.
Al was a devoted Husband and Dad, as well as a fabulous PopPop to his three granddaughters and, recently, to his great grandson. He would gladly drive his granddaughters wherever they wanted to go, but most especially loved taking them on the annual weeklong trips to places in the lower 48, Canada, Costa Rica, Panama, Italy, and on their first trip to Paris and London. He enjoyed attending their concerts, plays, sporting events, graduations and celebratory parties.
He will be remembered as a kind, good-hearted man with a delightful sense of humor, a devoted friend, and for being a beloved Husband, Dad and PopPop. His steadfast and loving presence in our lives will be very much missed by all.
Al is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Joanne; his children: daughter, Debbie (Jimmy), son, Bryan, daughter, Robin (Mark); his granddaughters, Jessica (Eddie), Breanna and Kelsey; and his great grandson, Sawyer. He is also survived by his sister, Elouise (Ed); his brothers, Don (Marilyn), Doug (Kathy) and Dennis; his niece, Sandi (Matt) and his nephew, Dennis.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, November 7 from 10:00 – 11:30AM, with a remembrance and celebration of life service immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Al may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 (https://www.cancer.org).
