Our highly esteemed husband, father, Grandfather, godfather and friend to many, many, many, Harry A. Lujan transitioned from life on our earth to his eternal resting place on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025.

Harry was born and raised at beautiful Taos Pueblo on December 7th, 1937. He always enjoyed sharing that Pearl Harbor Day is on his birthday. He was extremely proud of his Native American heritage and loved sharing about his people and culture. He spoke ‘Taos’ fluently and enjoyed every opportunity to speak with his family and friends at the Pueblo.

Harry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado and then in Baumholder, Germany. He married his wife, Alice, shortly before joining and they celebrated their 64th Anniversary on October 21st. They welcomed their son Harry Thomas Lujan on October 6th, 1964. They enjoyed camping throughout New Mexico and Arizona with their two granddaughters, T’erra and Aleiah accompanying them on many of their joyful and exciting RV adventures.

He received his Bachelor of Education from NMSU and then his master’s degree from Arizona State University. He then returned to his Alma Mater, NMSU to become the Director of the American Indian Program where he proudly served until his retirement after 30 years. Former NMSU President Mike Martin states that “Harry was smart, deeply committed to American Indian student education and relentlessly engaged in making the University a better servant to all students. I have learned a great deal from him that made me a better leader.”

Harry loved playing basketball, especially being sponsored by “Chopes,” with his fun loving companeros. He spoke of his basketball, camping and hunting adventures with great delight.

Harry is survived by his loving wife Alice, his granddaughters T’erra Lujan (Angel Soto) and great grandson Lionel Mateo, Aleiah Lujan (Elijah Boyd), Their mother, Sylvia Lujan. Neice, Ernestine Meyers (Glenn) and their children Matthew, Michael and Melissa. Neice, Mary Elaine Lujan and sons Merlin, Bryson and Thomas. Nephew, Deryl Lujan and his children Midnight and Hunter. Great nephews, Cameron and Lonnie (children of Dean). Neice, Maria Avilez Wells (Adam) and children and Nephew, Francisco Perez (Kara) and children.

Also surviving are his brothers in law, Joe Martinez and Victor Martinez (Pamela) and family, sisters in law, Charlene Aguilar and family and Judy Cunningham (Vaughn) and family as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends who knew and loved him dearly.

Predeceasing Harry is his son, Harry Thomas Lujan, his parents, Cesario and Tonita Lujan, brothers Jim Lujan (Josephine), brother Melvin and sister Margaret Perez (Frank), his nephew Dean Lujan, His mother and father-in-law Antonio and Helen Martinez, and sister and brothers in law, Olivia Trujillo, Ralph and Tony Martinez.

Harry will be remembered by many for his wit, charm, intelligence, sports knowledge… y mas y mas…

In lieu of flowers please male donations to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary beginning at 9:30 am with Recital of the Holy Rosary, Mass at 10:00 am followed by Inurnment of Cremains in the columbarium.
