HARRY O. POSTON, SR., 96, passed away Tuesday morning, July 22, 2025 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Tampa, FL, Harry was a son of the late Hampton and Anna Mae Dansby Poston. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After he was discharged from Fort Gordon, Harry stayed in Augusta for 9 years before moving to Aiken in 1960. He worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass, retiring after 35 years. Harry was also the owner and operator of Harry O’s Snacks, a vending company he ran for many years.
Harry was a member of Town Creek Baptist Church. He was an avid bowler, competing in his last league in April of this year. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Harry was first married to the late Betty Johnson Poston for 52 years until her death in 2003. He is survived by his wife of almost 5 years, Cynthia Franks Poston; two sons, Harry O. Poston, Jr., Taylors, SC, Larry Poston, Sr. (Michele), Aiken; a daughter, Terry Ann Cilica, Aiken; a daughter-in-law, Karen Poston, Aiken;a half-brother, David R. Poston of Oregon. Also surviving and left to carry on his legacy are 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
In addition to his first wife and parents, Harry was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Phillips; a son, Ricky Poston; a grandson, Corey Poston; four brothers, Lloyd Poston, H. L. Poston, Joseph Poston, Ernest Poston and a half-brother, Bobby Poston.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, July 24th from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Friday morning, July 25th at 11 o’clock at Hillview Baptist Church with The Revs. Mike McAlpin, Brancie Stephens and Danny Burleson officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery in Augusta, GA. Pallbearers will be Chris Poston, Charlie Poston, Brian Poston, Brandon Poston, Jerry Phillips and Logan Wales.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hillview Baptist Church’s Building Fund, 1910 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Graniteville, SC 29829.
