Harvey Broome, 81, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, December 28, 2024, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Friday, January 3, 2025, at Frank Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Hand officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Broome was born April 15, 1943 in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Fred Oliver Broome and Edna Mae Morris Broome. Harvey managed NAPA-Brooks Auto Parts and retired after over 45 years of service. He traded guns for over 50 years and was the owner/operator of Broome Firearms. Mr. Broome had a love of Fords, especially restoring Ford Mustangs. He was also an avid racing fan, his favorite being the Elliott racing team. Harvey was a true outdoorsman. Mr. Broome was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Angie & David Williams of Irwin County; son, Fred Broome of Irwin County; grandchildren: Brittany & Andrew Sirmans of Camden County, Justin Broome of Waynesville, Missouri, and Kailey Broome of Pacific, Missouri; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Sirmans; brother, J.M. Broome & Dale of Irwin County; brother-in-laws; Rick Gunby of Irwin County and Gregg & Catharine Gunby of Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Nina Gunby Broome; sister, Shirley & Gary Tankersley and a niece, Tammie Sanford.
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the kind and compassionate care given to Mr. Broome by Nellie Hunter and Janice Crockett and the Hospice of Tift Area staff.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Harvey Broome Scholarship fund that will be set up at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, c/o Mona MacKenzie, 667 Perry House Road, Fitzgerald GA 31750.
