Harvey Russell Gay, Jr., 76, of Louisville, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Russ was born in Louisville to the late Gertrude and Harvey Gay, Sr. He enjoyed scouting throughout his life. As a youth he was a Boy Scout. As an adult he served as a Scoutmaster in various troops, was honored with the George Meany Award and was a member of the Keystone Club. He also served as a co-leader in Girl Scouts.
Russ was a member of the Kentucky State District Council of Carpenters where he served on the board. He worked for over 40 years as a journeyman cabinet maker and architectural millworker. He was a member of the KYANA Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
He is preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Clarissa "Cis" Potts; father-in-law, Joseph Potts; and his beloved dog, Casey.
Carrying on Russ's legacy are his wife of over 50 years, Joanne Potts Gay; daughters, Shannon and Michelle Gay; faithful dog, Rhys; sisters, Elizabeth Secrest, Kathryn Gay, and Sharon Mueller (Charlie); sister-in-law, Barbara Huber (Joe); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Russ will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, with a service to follow at 1 p.m. at the Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, 40218.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hosparus Health of Louisville and/or the Alzheimer's Association.
