February 11, 1956 – September 27, 2025
Harvey Alexander Harvey was born on February 11, 1956, in
Wilmington, Delaware, and peacefully departed this life on September 27, 2025, at Wilmington Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and close friends.
Early Life & Middletown Roots
Harvey was raised in Middletown, Delaware, as a proud member of the large and closely-knit Harvey and Saunders families. From an early age, he was deeply involved in the Middletown community-singing in several youth choirs and notably as a beloved member of the MOT Choir. He attended schools in the Appoquinimink Public School District, graduating from Middletown High School.
Renowned for both his academic excellence and athletic achievements, Harvey made history as the first Black quarterback at Middletown High School. He also excelled in baseball and basketball, and his commitment to youth athletics continued throughout his life. He coached and mentored countless young athletes across Middletown and Wilmington and played several seasons with the Canada Dry semi-professional baseball team.
Education & Career in Public Service
Harvey earned a full athletic scholarship to Delaware State College (now Delaware State University), where he played baseball and graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1979. He later earned a Master of Education from the University of Delaware.
After a brief stint in the insurance industry, Harvey found his true calling in education. He began as a teacher and administrator at Louis L. Redding Middle School in Middletown, later rising to become Assistant Principal at Concord High School in Wilmington, where he served from 1999 to 2011.
Harvey was known for his ability to balance compassion with a firm, unrelenting drive to push students and staff to grow into the best versions of themselves. His legacy lives on in the thousands of students, known as Concord Raiders, and their families whose lives he touched. In 2001, he was honored as the Delaware Assistant Principal of the Year for his transformative leadership.
Family, Love & Community
While attending Delaware State College, Harvey met the love of his life, Linda Goldsborough. The two married in 1982 and built a beautiful life together in
