Mr. Harvey F. McFerron, age 73, of
Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Heisinger Bluffs surrounded by his loving family.
Harvey was born on September 17, 1949, in
Fredericktown, Mo., a son of Paul Raymond and Bess (McKinley) McFerron. He was married on January 11, 1986, in
Jefferson City, Mo. to Sharon Hunton and they were blessed with 37 years of marriage.
He was a 1967 graduate of Fredericktown High School. During high school, he worked at the Fredericktown IGA grocery store and after graduation, he enjoyed being a disc jockey in Fredericktown and at a radio station in Cape Girardeau. He was known for his amazing radio voice. Following high school, Harvey attended Mineral Area College near
Farmington, Mo., and served in the Missouri Army National Guard.
A resident of Jefferson City since 1974, Harvey was employed with the State of Missouri and later managed Aero Sonic in
California, Mo. During his retirement, he operated Mac's Pizza Works Truck with the help of his sons, which was one of the pioneering food trucks serving pizzas around central Missouri.
He was a member of the B.P.O. of the Elks, Lodge #513 for over 48 years and served as a past Exalted Ruler within their organization. Harvey dedicated his time to volunteering through the Elks Lodge and actively contributed to their fundraising barbecue competitions benefiting local organizations. A highlight was his participation in preparing hundreds of pounds of corned beef for their annual St. Patrick's Day celebration.
Harvey always put his family first and some of his favorite memories were times at their cabin on the Lake of the Ozarks. He looked forward to family boat rides and crappie fishing with his sons. His sociable nature thrived while entertaining loved ones around his BBQ pit, showcasing his skills in barbecue competitions at the State Fair, where he took pride in his brisket, chicken, and ribs. In his younger days, Harvey found joy in golfing and bowling alongside friends and family.
His family will forever remember Harvey for his great sense of humor, unwavering support, and intellect. He was a constant presence in their lives, setting an exceptional example of a strong work ethic. The valuable professional traits his sons all possess today were instilled by him.
Survivors include: his loving wife, Sharon McFerron of the home; three sons, Michael McFerron (Abbie) of
Jefferson City, Mo., Paul T. McFerron (Lexi) of
Santa Rosa Beach, Fl., and Joe McFerron (Missy) of
Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, Paul R. McFerron (Janet) of
Fredericktown, Mo., and Tom McFerron of
Farmington, Mo.; three grandchildren, Taryn, Scotty and Araia McFerron; brother-in-law, Kevin Hunton (Marybeth) of
Centertown, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Kay Carruthers; sister-in-law, Doris McFerron; and parents-in-law, Paul and Marge Hunton.
Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2023.
A reception will follow his visitation beginning around 6:15 pm Friday at the downstairs level of the Elks Lodge for family and friends to continue to share memories.
