It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Harwell Jay Gravis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 72. Harwell was born on August 10, 1952, in Dallas, Texas, to Charles Kearney Gravis III and Michael Cain Gravis, but was raised on the family ranch in South Texas by his grandparents, Elma Gravis and CK Gravis II, until they moved to Alice Tx, where he lived until he joined the Navy in 1972. He proudly served his country as a Naval Aviation Electronics Technician and later built a successful career as an Electrical Engineer. He married the love of his life, Gaylene Blair Gravis, and together they shared 53 and a half years of marriage, raising a family grounded in love, faith, and service. Harwell was saved in his early 20's and is a former member of First Baptist Church, Alice Tx where he served as a deacon and drove the Sunday School bus for several years. Harwell is survived by his devoted wife, Gaylene; his sons, Kearney Gravis and Steven Gravis (April};and his cherished grandchildren, Kathryne McKinney, (Brad). Steven Gravis (Edith), Tristin Gravis, and Emma Sharber. He is also remembered fondly by extended family and friends whose lives he touched deeply. Harwell was a man of unwavering devotion - to family, God, and country. He found joy in travel, and his life was a testament to integrity, kindness, and quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled and the love he gave so freely.
