Lee Terry (Haskell Lee Terry, Jr.) was born in Amarillo, Texas, on September 8, 1952, and passed away peacefully at his home in Harrah, Oklahoma, on January 6, 2024.
Lee graduated from Carl Albert High School in 1971 and was an Eagle Scout. His jobs throughout his life were many and varied, and because of his strong work ethic, he was successful at each. One of Lee's first jobs was at Overhead Door where he worked for many years. He was also an All-State insurance salesman, construction worker, truck driver, and mechanic. Before he retired, he owned his own business, Terry's Garage, and many local businesses brought their vehicles to him because they trusted him to be fair.
Lee's favorite pastimes, aside from spending time with family, included watching NASCAR, riding his Harley, showing off his dancing skills, fishing, watching wildlife in his backyard, and supporting his marriage by agreeing to go on cruises with Cyndi. He held special memories of a deep-sea fishing trip with his cousins, Robin and Tracy. Cyndi and Lee loved hosting friends at their home to watch football, play cards and games, and sing karaoke – badly.
People closest to Lee knew him as the Gentle Giant. His tall height could deceive people in their initial impression, meaning his gentle nature would surprise them. He was quietly observant of his loved ones, always aware of their happiness, their hurts, and ready to embrace them. And, that tall frame meant he gave the best, all-enveloping hugs. Lee truly believed the most important things were family and friends, and his life reflected that belief. When someone made their way into Lee's heart, they stayed there. He kept friendships made in high school, his first job, boot camp, and his early motorcycle days. Lee loved completely, and his friends and family speak of his singular gift of making people feel cared for and special.
Lee was incredibly proud of his children and cherished being a grandfather. He was a champion napper in the recliner with the little ones and was always up to playing whatever the older kids wanted. He read bedtime stories to Carly and Josie, played dress up as Yellowstone characters with Jaxon, played Safari explorers with Morgan capturing paw prints in plaster, and of course, made pancakes with each of them using Grandpa's secret recipe.
Lee is survived by his loving wife, Cyndi Terry; brother Earl McFarland; mother-in-law Olene Senner; children Summer Long and husband, Cody, Jenny and Jodi Martin, and Michael Martin and wife, Mindy; grandchildren Dakotah Webb, Drayke Webb, Darian Webb Gonzalez and husband, Salvador, Jaxon Webb, Alleyah Martin, Morgan Martin, Carly Humphrey, and Josie Humphrey; and great-grandchild Mariana Gonzalez.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Ryan Terry and Brett Terry, and parents, Delores Downing Fadely, Darlington ("Dizz") Fadley, and Haskell Lee Terry, Sr.
The family would like to say a special thank you to those who have recently given special care to Lee and Cyndi: Bonnie and Kevin Geisler, Earl McFarland, Cindy Simpson, and Heartland Hospice nurses Dana, Judy, Lesa, and Patty.
A celebration of life will be held on January 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Asa Smith Funeral Home located at 2039 Tim Holt Drive, Harrah, Oklahoma.
