Hazel LaRue (Himes) Dickey, age 89, of Harborcreek passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024. She was born in Cumberland, Maryland on February 3, 1935 a daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Mary Matilda (Bonnett) Himes.
Hazel graduated from Reynoldsville High School and after graduation went on to work at the Cameron Plant. In 1956 she married her husband Nelson and together they moved to Erie for his job at General Electric. Hazel enjoyed gardening, reading and listening to country music, especially Johnny Cash. She spent many an hour on the phone with her sister, Shirley Jacobson, and visiting with her good friend and neighbor, Shirley Jovanovich. Dining and shopping trips with her daughter Cindy or just taking a ride in the car were sources of enjoyment in recent years. Hazel was always up for a good meal and liked Italian food and ribs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson V. Dickey in 2013 and siblings, James Himes, William Himes, Jackie Gaul, Regina Himes and Pamela Himes.
Hazel is survived by her loving daughter, Cindy Jean Madura, husband Tom; siblings, Dale Himes, Shirley Jacobson, Sandra Irvin, Ronald Himes and Vernon Himes. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street. A service will be held there on Friday at 11 am. Burial will be private in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
