WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Hazel Althea Diggs, age 69, of Waterbury, formerly of Danbury, shares the news of her peaceful passing on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness.

Hazel was born on June 15, 1956, in Washington DC, the daughter of the late Roscoe and Juanita (Monroe) Diggs. She was a graduate of local schools and then went on to work for public safety for 37 years. Hazel, outside of her professional life, found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as being close to the water, taking drives to appreciate the beauty of nature, and indulging in her love for reading romance novels. Family and friends fondly remember her as a wonderful dancer, always eager to share in the joy of music and the playing of cards.

Left to honor and cherish her memory, is her children; Raheem Diggs, and Chloé Diggs, her granddaughter, Searra Marie Diggs, her sister, Denise Sharon Diggs, nieces and nephews; Clarence (Dagian) Diggs, Kesha (Dexter) Bennett, Charles Valentine Jones, Alondus (Shirret) Jones, Aunt Betty (Gene) Jaynes, along with several great nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Hazel was predeceased by her paternal grandmother, Marie Diggs, maternal grandmother, Odell Miller, maternal grandfather, Herbert Monroe, sister, Beverly Marie Jones, and her niece, Juanita Jones.

A Memorial Gathering for Ms. Diggs will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06705. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of her family. To honor her memory and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Harold Leever Cancer Center at https://www.leevercancercenter.org/ would be greatly appreciated by her family. Loving kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort, or share a memory with the family and friends of someone important to you on the funeral home website.
