Hazel Ruth Murphy, a beloved lifetime homemaker, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Port Neches, Texas, at the age of 95. She was born on August 8, 1930, in San Antonio, Texas, to Leslie Edward Freiling and Lois Agnes Freiling.

Hazel dedicated her life to creating a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends. With a generous spirit and an infectious smile, she made everyone feel at ease and cherished within her embrace. A devoted member of the First Methodist Church in Port Neches, Hazel enjoyed her time volunteering with the women’s group, where she found joy and fulfillment serving others.

In her leisure, Hazel had a profound love for travel, which allowed her to explore the world beyond her cherished home. She also delighted in working puzzles and crocheting, activities that brought her both relaxation and creative expression.

Hazel is survived by her son, Walter E. Murphy of Evans, Georgia; daughters, Cynthia Diane Sorrels and her husband, Tom of Tyler, Texas, Debra Lynn Choate of San Antonio, Texas, and Donna Ruth Murphy of Port Neches, Texas. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and a loving great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren, who will surely carry her memory forward with fondness.

Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Herbert Murphy; her brother, Richard Cline Freiling; her step-father, Leonard Goike; and her parents, Leslie and Lois Freiling. Her legacy of kindness, nurturing, and unwavering support will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Hazel Ruth Murphy will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered.
